At the start of this year I received an exciting commission to draw a pet portrait for the band Big Thief. Continue reading to find out more about the portrait and a few hidden elements that I included.
I'd never been asked to do a commission like this before so it was exciting project to work on. I was provided with multiple reference photos of Oso, who is owned by a band member, and was asked to create this unique design. They wanted 3 versions of his image as the main part of the portrait. Then at the top of the portrait there would be Oso's eyes which fade into the background. I was also asked to include some hidden drawings of Oso within the portrait - can you spot them all?
There are 5 hidden versions of Oso (circled in red below) within the main portrait. For 3 of them I used the small strokes, following the direction of his fur, to create subtle forms of his features. The other 2 are hidden within the rock which was quite a challenge to make them look natural.
THE BAND MERCHANDISE
The band are using the drawing on t-shirts ready for their upcoming world tour. I think it's pretty cool getting to see a drawing I did on merchandise!
